Bear Valley Meals on Wheels seeks volunteer drivers ahead of winter season
The all-volunteer program delivers hot meals to 30–40 homebound residents five days a week — and needs help keeping up through the snowy months.

Bear Valley Meals on Wheels is calling on Big Bear Valley residents to step up as volunteer delivery drivers this winter, as the nonprofit works to ensure homebound neighbors continue receiving hot meals even when mountain roads get tough.
The organization delivers in-home nourishment to people who are unable to get out on their own, running routes Monday through Friday — holidays included — to roughly 30–40 recipients across the valley. Every role in the organization is filled by a volunteer, and all donations go directly toward providing meals rather than overhead.
The time commitment is modest: delivery shifts typically take less than two hours per week, and volunteers can choose how often they contribute. The program is particularly eager to add drivers for the winter season, when snowy and icy conditions can make reliable coverage harder to maintain.
Editor's note: Big Bear News was unable to independently confirm details about the volunteer experience or the program's impact from the perspective of current drivers or meal recipients. A fuller picture of the program's day-to-day work would benefit from those voices.
Residents interested in volunteering as a delivery driver can contact Candy Hallstead, President of Bear Valley Meals on Wheels, at 909-806-0360.
