A vegetation fire dubbed the "Snow Fire" ignited west of Snow Summit at approximately 11:21 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, prompting a rapid response from emergency crews.

Thanks to that swift action, the fire was held to just a quarter acre. By 1:30 PM, crews had established a hose lay around the perimeter and the fire entered the mop-up stage — meaning active flames were out and firefighters were working to fully extinguish any remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Big Bear News has reached out to Cal Fire and San Bernardino County Fire for official comment on containment status and cause; this story will be updated when a response is received.

Residents near Snow Summit should continue to avoid the area while crews complete mop-up operations.
