FOBBV addresses speculation about Shadow and a visiting eagle near the Big Bear nest
The wildlife group says the young eagle's behavior is seasonal and normal, as Jackie continues her recovery at the Ojai Raptor Center.

With Jackie still recovering at the Ojai Raptor Center, some Big Bear bald eagle watchers have been watching her mate Shadow closely — and wondering what to make of a young eagle that has been hanging around the nest. Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) stepped in this week with a habitat update meant to ease concerns.
The visiting bird is a subadult bald eagle that an unnamed eagle expert assessed to be approximately 3½ years old. FOBBV said Shadow's behavior is consistent with the current season and pushed back firmly on speculation that he is actively searching for a new mate. The organization also offered some historical context: previous eaglets raised at the Big Bear nest have generally dispersed around four weeks after fledging, a pattern that helps explain shifting activity in the area.
The update comes entirely from FOBBV's perspective, and the eagle expert cited was not identified by name. An independent wildlife biologist's view on Shadow's behavior — and on what it means for a subadult eagle to visit an established nest territory — could not be confirmed. The Ojai Raptor Center has not released a direct statement on Jackie's current condition.
Supporters following Jackie's recovery can check FOBBV's official channels for future habitat updates and any news from the Ojai Raptor Center on her status.
