A community memorial ceremony is set for October 3, with two earlier tribute gatherings in Fawnskin open to the public this September. Jackie, the bald eagle who captured hearts worldwide through a 24/7 nest livestream near Big Bear Lake, died on August 10 at the Ojai Raptor Center in Ventura County after nearly a month of care following a mid-July fight with two younger eagles. The outpouring of grief from fans near and far has prompted multiple tributes across the valley and beyond.

Official memorial: October 3

Friends of Big Bear Valley — the nonprofit that operated the nest camera — is organizing the flagship memorial event in partnership with Visit Big Bear, the City of Big Bear Lake, the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, and the U.S. Forest Service's San Bernardino National Forest. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, but the location, time, and full event details have not yet been announced. Residents and fans should watch Friends of Big Bear Valley's social media channels for updates.

Fawnskin tributes in September

A separate memorial tribute — unaffiliated with Friends of Big Bear Valley — is being held at Fawn Park in Fawnskin, the small north-shore community where Jackie and her partner Shadow made their nest. Fawn Park owner Mike Wayman has set two open gatherings: Saturday, September 5 and Saturday, September 26, both beginning at 10 a.m. at 39221 N. Shore Drive, Fawnskin. Both events are free to the public. Wayman described the gatherings as informal: fans can "show up, pay their respects, say a few words if they'd like".

Questions still unanswered

Jackie rose to fame through the Friends of Big Bear Valley livestream, which she shared with her mate Shadow. What happens to the nest camera, the livestream, and Shadow going forward has not been confirmed. The Ojai Raptor Center reported that Jackie had been suffering from large blood clots in both wings and in a kidney, but the official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Full details for the October 3 memorial are expected to be announced by Friends of Big Bear Valley in the coming weeks. Follow the organization's social media pages or visit their website for the latest information.
