Mountain Transit Named a 2026 Big Bear Chamber Excellence in Business Award Recipient

The valley's public transit provider is being recognized for its transformation from a small startup into a community-wide operation.

The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce has named Mountain Transit a 2026 Excellence in Business Award recipient, honoring the organization's growth, community impact, and leadership over more than three decades of service in the valley.

Mountain Transit has come a long way since it launched in December 1993 as a small, limited transit service. Under General Manager Sandy Benson, the organization has grown into a valley-wide operation that the Chamber credits with "remarkable transformation" and "innovative leadership."

The Excellence in Business Award is one of the Chamber's top recognitions for local organizations. The specific criteria used to select Mountain Transit from among other nominees or Chamber members could not be confirmed from available sources, and voices from riders and community members who rely on the expanded service were not included in the announcement.

What's next: The award is expected to be presented at an upcoming Chamber event. Residents who want to learn more about Mountain Transit's routes and services — or share feedback about public transit in the valley — can reach out to Mountain Transit directly or visit the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce for event details.
