The Mountain Home Village Scenic Overlook on State Highway 38 is temporarily closed, according to a U.S. Forest Service recreation listing — but the agency has not publicly stated why or when the site will reopen.
The overlook sits just east of the community of Mountain Home Village and is a popular stop for visitors heading into the San Bernardino Mountains. On a clear day it offers sweeping views of the San Gorgonio Wilderness and Sand to Snow National Monument to the east, and Yucaipa Ridge above Mill Creek to the south. Under normal circumstances the site is open year-round, making the current closure an unusual development.
The Forest Service listing does not include a reason for the closure or an expected reopening date, and that information could not be confirmed at the time of publication. Hikers, sightseers, and anyone planning to stop at the overlook should check the U.S. Forest Service recreation listing or contact the local San Bernardino National Forest ranger office for the most current information before heading out.
