The Ojai Raptor Center in Ventura County has drawn national attention for its care of Jackie, the well-known bald eagle from Big Bear Lake who is the mate of Shadow, whose nest remains in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Jackie arrived at the raptor center on July 17 after the already-ill bird was caught up in a ground altercation with two juvenile eagles — an encounter that made a difficult situation worse.
For the many Big Bear Valley residents who have followed Jackie and Shadow's nest for years, the Ojai Raptor Center's veterinary team has become a lifeline. Now, supporters are being asked to show their gratitude the old-fashioned way: by mailing a thank-you card to the center.
A spokesperson for the Ojai Raptor Center and organizers of the card campaign could not be reached for comment before publication.
To send a card, look up the Ojai Raptor Center's mailing address at ojairaptorcenter.org (opens in a new tab). Updates on Jackie's condition are expected to continue through community channels as her treatment progresses — keep an eye on local eagle-watching groups for the latest news.
