The Big Bear Municipal Water District board of directors will take up a lake phosphorus and algae management study, a special event permit for a 2027 US Rowing training camp, and an amendment to its environmental review contract at a regular meeting Thursday, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m. The meeting is at the district office, 40524 Lakeview Drive in Big Bear Lake. The decisions bear on how the district plans to manage water quality in Big Bear Lake and who will be allowed to use the lake for organized events next year, and residents can speak to the board before it votes.

What is on the agenda

Under business items, directors will consider a proposal from Aquatechnex, LLC, for a lake phosphorus investigation and algae management planning study. They will also consider a special event permit from US Rowing for a 2027 training camp.

The board will also consider authorizing the general manager to amend the district's purchase order with GEI Consultants for the Big Bear Lake Maintenance and Improvement Program environmental impact report (EIR) and permitting strategy. A fourth item is the purchase of a replacement forklift.

The agenda packet lists the items by title only. It does not include staff reports, cost figures for the proposals, or the dates and size of the rowing camp, and the agenda says supporting documents are available at www.bbmwd.com (opens in a new tab) or at the district office.

Consent calendar and committees

The consent calendar, which covers routine items, includes minutes of the Oct. 15, 2026, meeting and a warrant list dated Oct. 29 totaling $183,867.09. Four committees have met since the last regular meeting: Watermaster on Oct. 20, Lake Improvement on Oct. 21, Operations on Oct. 26, and Budget & Finance on Oct. 28. No closed session is scheduled.

Public comment and what's next

Residents can address the board on items not on the agenda during Public Forum, which is limited to 30 minutes total for all speakers. The agenda notes that up to five minutes may be allotted per speaker on an agenda item and three minutes on items not on the agenda.

The board's next regular meeting is Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the same address.
