Meteor streaks over Big Bear eagle nest, caught on live camera

A meteor flashed across the night sky over Big Bear Valley in the early hours of Tuesday morning, moving at great speed before vanishing, and the moment was captured on Friends of Big Bear Valley's live eagle nest camera^[1]. KTLA described the valley, home of the famous bald eagles Shadow and Kaydee, as being "treated to a dazzling celestial spectacle"^[1]. For residents who follow the nest online, the clip is a reminder that the camera can catch more than eagle behavior, including the night sky above the valley.

What the camera recorded

According to the KTLA report, "A meteor soared across the night sky, moving at incredible speed before vanishing in the blink of an eye."^[1] The report says the moment was captured on Friends of Big Bear Valley's live nest camera^[1].

A photo caption in the report shows Shadow on the live eagle cam on Tuesday, August 25, 2026^[1]. The excerpt we reviewed does not give the exact date or time of the meteor, its brightness, or whether it was part of a known meteor shower.

The eagles behind the camera

Kaydee, formerly known as KD1, "was first seen hanging around the nest area while Jackie was away receiving treatment and has since been a frequent visitor on Friends of Big Bear Valley's live eagle nest camera," according to the report^[1].
